[Tuesday Oct 9th]
Today we headed to Penang. We thought our flight left Singapore at 9:15am so we decided to leave the hotel around 6am or so, it was about a 45min taxi ride to the airport. We were up til 2am anyway so we decided to stay up all night so we wouldn't miss 6am. Terry didn't make it and zonked out but Anna pulled through all night. We were ready about 6:15am to find that our flight was actually at 8am! Time to fly!
We got to the airport in record time and the place was almost deserted. We walked right up to the check-in counter. The guy there was real nice and got us seats together. It wasn't until later that we realized that Terry got bumped up from economy class to business class to ride with Anna, how nice! The guy noticed we had a little time and suggested that we visit the Business Class lounge.
This was the first time that Anna had ever been to such a lounge. What a great place that was. Free food, free drinks, good bathrooms, nice couches, the works! There is no better way to fly. About 45min before our flight was scheduled to take off, we headed to our gate. As we started on our way, we heard an announcement. Our flight was on final boarding, 10 minutes, argh! We started running, we had quite a ways to go yet. The Singapore Airport is huge! Whew, we made it. Just in time for some free drinks! Turns out they they really didn't mean 10 minutes, just tried to rush everyone to get them there on time. It worked for us!
Soon enough we arrived in Penang and got picked up by Mei Fong. We hit the road and headed back to the apartment. After unloading all our stuff we headed to Queensbay Mall for some food!
We first walked around the grocery store checking out all the differences. One of neat things we came across were clear pop cans! Just check out that model showing them off!
Anna had a crazy hot dog craving and they happened to have a Hot Dog stand at the mall, how strange! Look at her devour her dog. We gotta start the Penang immersion, maybe after the hot dogs, soon the Hawker centers!
Believe it or not, we headed out to see the town. Our first stop? Penang Hill. We took a Funicular car up to the top. These are always an experience. Crowded on the way up, listening to older American music, much more spacious on the way down.
While up top we had magnificent views of the Island. We could see KOMTAR tower in Georgetown, The Penang Bridge, our Apartment, etc. We also walked around atop the hill and saw both a temple and a Mosque.
We headed back down the hill and back home for some much needed rest. We're exhausted, maybe not sleeping last night was not the best of ideas ;)
